Empowering Your Health: A Conversation with EB Osara on Integrative Medicine

An insightful conversation with EB Osara, family nurse practitioner and founder of Eden Health Alaska, discussing integrative medicine, root cause analysis, and patient empowerment.

James Kopeck: Thanks for coming today! I'm really excited to learn more about you and your practice. To start off, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

Ebunoluwa "EB" Osara: My full name is Ebunoluwa Osara, but people find it a bit difficult to pronounce, so I go by EB. I am a family nurse practitioner and the founder of Eden Health Alaska. I specialize in helping men and women, especially those in their 30s and beyond, feel like themselves again. My practice focuses heavily on integrative health, hormone optimization, cellular health, and preventative medicine.

The Inspiration Behind Eden Health Alaska

James Kopeck: That sounds amazing. What inspired you to get into this field, and what is your overall philosophy when it comes to treating patients?

EB Osara: I started my healthcare journey in conventional, insurance-based medicine, working in an acute care cardiac unit. I noticed a "revolving door" effect—patients would be admitted, discharged, and soon enough, they were back in the hospital. I realized we weren't truly empowering them to take charge of their health and prevent disease.

My other major inspiration is my dad. He was a Type 2 diabetic with an A1C over 9 during COVID, and he needed eye surgery. His doctors refused to operate until his blood sugar was controlled. Because he strongly believes that "food is medicine," he refused traditional medication. Through rigorous research, diet changes, and exercise, he brought his A1C down to 6—the pre-diabetic range. Seeing him change the course of a chronic disease through lifestyle and diet showed me the true power of integrative medicine.

James Kopeck: I really connect with that on a personal level. I'm also a Type 2 diabetic. For over two years, my A1C was at 14.7. Recently, using GLP-1s and peptides, I managed to lower it to 6.1. The diabetes had severely affected my nerves, teeth, and ability to heal, to the point where I feared going blind or losing a foot. After getting on medication, my A1C dropped drastically, and I've also been using copper peptides to heal my skin. Your dad did it the organic way, which takes a lot of strong will!

EB Osara: It definitely takes discipline, but you are doing a great job too. GLP-1s are not magic pills; you still have to put in the work, and dropping from a 14 to a 7 is an outstanding result.

Philosophy and Patient Care

James Kopeck: What is your core philosophy when treating patients?

EB Osara: My philosophy is simple: if the body is given what it needs, it is designed to heal itself. Symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, midday crashes, and poor sleep are simply signals. Your body is telling you that something isn't right. As providers, we need to be detectives to dig deep and identify the root cause. The body is beautifully complex, and an imbalance in one system can impact everything else. While trendy treatments like hormone replacement are fantastic, I prefer to pause and do a comprehensive overview to figure out exactly what is wrong rather than just focusing on one symptom.

Location, Accessibility, and Booking

James Kopeck: Where are you currently located, and how can patients see you?

EB Osara: I am located on the east side of Anchorage, Alaska, on Bragaw Street. It’s a mixed-use complex that includes a dental office, an eye clinic, and even restaurants. My office is right at the end of the first building on the right.

James Kopeck: Is parking an issue for commuting patients?

EB Osara: Parking is definitely not an issue; we have plenty of room. There is also a bus station right in front of the turn into the clinic for those using public transit.

James Kopeck: Do you offer telehealth for those who don't want to drive or are out of the area?

EB Osara: Yes, my practice is hybrid. We offer both telehealth and in-person visits for men and women, depending on the type of care they need.

James Kopeck: What is the easiest way for a new patient to book a session?

EB Osara: There are a few ways:

  • Call the office directly.
  • Send an email.
  • Fill out the "Contact Us" form on our website.
  • Send a direct message on Facebook or Instagram.

Calling or sending an email is the absolute fastest way, as my staff is always on top of checking those.

What to Expect & Insurance Info

James Kopeck: What should a new patient expect during their very first visit?

EB Osara: It depends on the package they choose.

  • Wellness and Longevity Package: We start with a 5- to 15-minute discovery call to understand their goals. Then, I order custom labs, and we schedule a formal appointment to review the results and make a plan.
  • Weight Loss, Hormone Optimization, or Metabolic Health: We schedule a full visit upfront, talk through a plan, order the necessary lab work, and go from there.

James Kopeck: Finally, do you take insurance or are you cash-only?

EB Osara: We accept three major insurances: Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna. Patients can also use their insurance to cover certain lab work if they choose.

James Kopeck: Awesome. I learned a lot about your practice today. Thanks for taking the time to let me pick your brain!
